INTAKE
Intake consists of a comprehensive evaluation, which is then used to create an individualized treatment plan. During the evaluation phase, our specially trained staff will carefully review your medical history, check your vitals to determine blood pressure and pulse rate elevations to examine if you’re going through symptoms of withdrawal. We will ask you detailed questions about which drug(s) you used, in what quantity, for how long, and if you used any drugs in combination. During your evaluation, there would be a creation of a personalized detox program that will ensure your comfort and safety. Urine samples are collected immediately for drug test (Toxicology), to determine substances present.
MEDICAL DEXTOXIFICATION (DETOX)
Getting clean and sober from drugs and alcohol takes more than willpower. Both the body and mind are involved in drug addiction, and both go through withdrawal when the addict no longer gets the substance they crave. The good news is, you can and will get through detox with the help of our skilled addiction medical specialists at Peep- Ters Institute.
There are several approaches to successful detox, but it takes qualified medical professionals to help get the substances out of your system safely. Attempting to detox on your own, or going “cold turkey,” is highly discouraged and is dangerous, because abruptly stopping can be life-threatening. For example, people addicted to benzodiazepines, alcohol are at risk for seizures, alcoholics have a higher risk of delirium and vomiting, and heroin addicts may have cold flashes and uncontrolled leg movements, can result to respiration compromise or death. Safely detoxing people from substance abuse includes:
Cocaine Detox, Fentanyl Detox, Heroin Detox, Methamphetamine Detox, Opiate Detox, Alcohol detox, Benz diazepam detox and many more.
Common withdrawal symptoms include:
Sweating, Fatigue, Depression, Anxiety, Irritability, Gastrointestinal (GI) distress, Muscles aches and spasms, running nose, Nausea and vomiting and Sleep disturbances title hallucinations.
At Peep- Ters Institute, we have a medical detoxification program, which is different from stopping drugs or alcohol on your own. The difference between going cold turkey and participating in medical detox is that the latter is slower and more controlled. You won’t have to face excruciating withdrawal symptoms with no relief; you receive the medical care, medications, and emotional support you’ll need as you safely detox.
Detox looks different from one patient to the next, and there is no one-size-fits-all detox program, even for two people who used the same substance. At our medical detox center in Kumasi, we will formulate a personalized plan for your detox, which is influenced by your overall physical health, the substance(s) you consumed, how often you used them, and how long you have been using them.
We have a 2-stage approach to medical detox:
Stabilization: During the detox phase, our team will continually check your vitals and monitor your neurological status. This is necessary because it ensures you don’t experience symptoms such as delirium, seizures, or high blood pressure.
Transition: Detoxification is only the first step in your journey to sobriety. Once you leave detox, you still must work diligently to maintain your sobriety during treatment. Our medical staff will create a thoughtful transition plan, so you’re prepared to continue your recovery journey through REHABILITATION for 6 months with our Rehabilitation.
CO-OCCURRING DISORDER (DUAL DIAGNOSIS)
Individuals with medical or psychiatric issue (Diabetes, Hypertension (Blood pressure), thyroid diseases, Seizure disorder, acute kidney disease) or (Depression, Bipolar, Anxiety, Schizoaffective disorder) must discuss additional treatment options with a fee to ensure we assign additional professional to make sure that they receive the appropriate level of support and care. Dual diagnosis applies to people who suffer from mental health illness coupled with drug addiction. These are group of patients that has fallen through the crack in many treatment centers in Ghana.
At PEEP –TERS: “If you have a co-occurring disorder or a dual diagnosis, we will discuss with you about additional treatment option to ensure that you receive the necessary support and care.”
REHABILITATION (REHAB)
Effective withdrawal management and successful detox completion leads to closer focus on longer – term recovery, where rehabilitation phase comes in. It is through extension counseling and therapy that help you address the underlying issues behind your addictions. This help individuals get to the core reasons behind their addictions, addressing these issues can effectively help one to move on with their lives without going back to drugs, alcohol, or not resuming their addictive behaviors.
Group therapy is the cornerstone of all our substance abuse recovery programs, but those groups are paired with a wide range of other therapeutic techniques. Individual therapy, procedural learning, psycho education groups, relapse prevention, live group session with Extension, life skills, family therapy and spirituality groups also play an important role in the treatment process.
Inpatient treatment program strives to remove those struggling with substance use disorders from their old ways of life by taking them out of a potentially problematic home environment and placing them into a treatment facility that offers 24 / 7 care from staff personnel.
Outpatient treatment program is a good option for those with short lived addictions, but may be a less optional choice for serious, long-term addiction or for those with dual diagnosis conditions.
